| Michael Eash is the Music Director at Christ's Covenant Church in Utica. He lives in New Baltimore with his wife, Krista, and four of their seven kids. Over the years, I have always taught a few piano lessons because I recognized that there is such a need to raise up musicians for the future. Not only for the sake of the arts, but for the church as well. So, I have developed methods to teach adults and children that are appropriate for both. In the last few years, teaching has become a significant part of my personal mission. I teach at a studio in Grosse Pointe on Monday and Tuesday and in a studio in my home in New Baltimore from Wednesday through Friday. I love teaching. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a young student grow. Seeing them 'get it', is an incredible feeling. The same is true with adults. To be able to provide them with a way to sit down at their formerly unused piano and play their favorite songs, and have them remark at how easy it was, is a great feeling. I don't try to turn adults into concert pianists. That has never been the goal of anyone I have worked with. But to play for their own enjoyment, for worship, and for sing-alongs; that is possible for almost anyone! My theory with children is a little more complex. There are so many different situations. Every family has a little different reason for being there. I like to try to understand their goals, and work to achieve them. Once I have the answers to some of those questions, I tailor the curriculum and my teaching style accordingly.
